How We Select Furniture for HW Home

What if part of your job description included perusing a market full of brand new furniture, and choosing which pieces to bring home? Landmark store manager Lauren Cox did just that when she visited High Point Furniture Market this past fall with a team from HW Home. This market is the largest wholesale home furnishings trade show in the world! It features the newest products and the largest selection for retailers to choose from when deciding what they will sell for the next six months to a year. As this was her first furniture buying trip for HW Home, Lauren is excited to share her post-market recap on the blog today.

As with fashion, home decor trends change with the seasons. Last October, I had the opportunity to travel to High Point, North Carolina with our team of Directors for the High Point Furniture Market. The products we chose months ago are now starting to hit the showroom floors for spring and it feels like I am right back at the market. This was my first experience traveling to the furniture market, and although the nights were long and the days were exhausting, I returned even more energized and excited about the new furniture we hand-selected for our three Colorado stores.

The beauty of interior design is that a space is never truly “done.” There is always an opportunity to shake things up and try something new. At High Point, we have a chance to see first-hand what trends are emerging, what kind of decor and design is still holding strong, and what trends are on the way out. This process of observation and evaluation is incredibly important because what we decide to bring into our stores will influence our aesthetic for years to come.

There’s a story behind each piece of furniture in our stores, and traveling to market allowed me to meet the designers and hear the stories and inspirations behind their creations. Our team got to sit on, touch, and experience the furniture first hand. This intimacy allows us to create a connection with our clients so they can trust we are bringing them the highest quality pieces. Not only do we consider how each individual piece will fit into our stores, we put ourselves in our client’s shoes and visualize how our selections will transform their homes.

While we are shopping the showrooms at High Point, our goal is to find pieces with a sense of comfort and livability. We look for pieces that are showstoppers but will stand the test of time. I’ve included below a few of my favorite pieces that you will see on our showroom floors in the coming weeks.

Blue wingbacked chair at High Point Market

The Pretty in Pink table lamp is on-trend with one of this year’s Pantone Color of the Year selections - Rose Quartz. When it does hit our showroom floors, it will be a stunning addition to our spring vignettes, and will easily incorporate into nearly any decor you have at home.

The Ashley Chair is my personal favorite piece from the market. I love the contrast offered by the leather buttons and bold “spice” fabric. It’s unlike any other piece we have in our inventory, and would make for a swoon-worthy addition to a bedroom or reading nook.

The Mermaid sequin pillows are an “internet sensation,” and it’s exciting for us to be ahead of the trend. I’m sure they’ll be gone before we know it!

The SoMa Wingback chair is an amazingly versatile addition to our inventory. The wood frame can be matched to almost any Benjamin Moore paint color - the decor possibilities are endless!

And last but not least, I’m loving the brilliant pop of jewel-tone blue on the Marlow Wing Chair. This beautiful new-comer will make its debut at our annual Warehouse Sale this month.

Experiencing gorgeous furniture doesn’t have to be a biannual event. Stop by any of our three Colorado locations and ask us about what’s new on the floor! We’d love to share our favorite pieces with you and your home.
