For the first time at HW Home, we opened a floor set competition to our team of talented creatives. In an attempt to freshen up our thinking and engage with staff, we created the “Spring Floor Design Challenge.”
In the past, a floor set falls on one or two team members and takes weeks to plan. Our Director of Visual Merchandising, John Wright, says that with the addition of the new Fort Collins store, he now has to plan floor designs for four stores; by the time he’s done executing the designs for one season, it’s time to start on the next.
With this epic task in front of him, John came up with the solution to bring other team members on board for the transformation. We tested the design challenge at our Cherry Creek store to see if it was worth expanding to all of our locations. And it was a hit!
Out of the multiple impressive design entries we received, we chose Cathy Kulzer’s. Her entry was full of bold colors and fun textures, which really made the display window stand out. Cathy was responsible for bringing her idea to life by working with the warehouse team and executing the display.
While discussing Cathy’s creative process to create the winning design, she said, “I started with a very fun and fluffy berry red rug then built around it. My vision was to be light, airy, and colorful while keeping with the HW Home style. Using unique pieces like the Butterfly chair, I was able to achieve a winning design.”
Cathy’s vignette is currently on display at our Cherry Creek store through the spring. Stop by for a peek at her winning design, as well as the rest of our new spring collection! Need more inspiration for your own spring renewal? Ask any of our designers about HW Home design services.
